House plan Great Escape (1904)
Affordable small 2 bedroom cabin plan, wood stove, open concept, low budget construction
Other useful information on this plan
2 Bedroom Country Cabin with very low construction costs
At a mere 480 sq. ft., this getaway cottage is popular for its twin bedrooms, cozy activity area and covered porch. Clerestory windows above the porch add the the brightness and illusion of more space and a woodstove keeps the whole area warm with very little fuel.
This tiny cottage is a favorite because of the ease of building the simple plan in remote areas.
In order to respect the building code and also meet the multiple needs of our customers, you will have two (2) versions of the cottage design included in your plan.
A first version will include an uninsulated and unheated version for seasonal use only (3 seasons). The walls are 2 '' x 4 '', the floor joists are 2 '' x 8 '' and the rafters are 2 '' x 8 '' for the roof.
The second version is an isolated and heated version for permanent occupation (4 seasons). For this one the walls are 2 '' x 6 '', the floor joists are 2 '' x 10 '' and the roof is designed with roof trusses.
**BCIN certification for Ontario residents only: as the 2x4 and 2x6 wall versions are included in the plan you will receive, the BCIN certification service is only offered on the 2x6 wall version. Please contact us for details, if needed.
Both versions are provided on screw piles to ensure stability. However we can design other types of foundation for this plan to better suit your needs if necessary. You need simply contact us for details.

You're explanation of ceiling height and light entering from top windows was not clear. If the ceiling height is around 8 feet throughout the whole structure, how can light from windows which are clearly higher than 8 feet enter the main living area?

Hello Mr Otazu,
Thank you for your comment and yes, many people are confused with this one.
The ceiling slopes from the back 8'-2" and at the rear to 11'-5" at front were the windows are.
I hope this helps!

The detail says the ceiling height is 8'2", but the illustration gives the impression that the height in the activity room should be much greater, perhaps 10' or more. What am I missing?

Good day and thank you for taking the time to write.
The ceiling height is actually 8'2" throughout but the small windows along the upper front give the impression of added height and add to the abundance of natural light that enters the main living area.
Please let me know if I can further assist you.
