How much does a renovation plan cost ?

The cost of a renovation plan depends on the complexity of the project and the number of on-site visits required.

Our fees are based on a clear and transparent hourly rate.

You’ll receive a written and detailed estimate outlining our services and the initial delivery timeline for your approval before the project begins.

Renovation plan delivery time

The delivery time for a renovation plan generally ranges from a few days to a few weeks, depending on several factors :

  • Time of year, based on workload and the number of active projects
  • Time required by the client to review, reflect, and approve the proposed changes
  • Adjustments or design changes made during the process

6 steps to a renovation plan that fits your needs and budget

To avoid unnecessary costs and delays, it is essential to prepare your renovation project before contacting us. Below are the key points to discuss and clarify beforehand:


  • Verify with your municipality’s planning or building department which types of buildings are permitted in your area, the required setbacks (front, rear, side, and building height), as well as approved exterior materials for the façade and other elevations (architectural control guidelines, if applicable).
  • Confirm your available renovation budget with your financial institution for your home or cottage project.
  • Prepare a list of essential elements. This list will vary from one family to another, but should include - depending on the type of renovation you are planning - the desired architectural style, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, must-have spaces such as a home office, gym, playroom, covered deck (rear or side), preferred foundation type, etc.
  • Include photos and/or sketches, if needed.

One or more meetings with a Drummond House Plans' professional will allow us to fully understand your family’s space requirements and lifestyle needs, so we can design a custom home plan that aligns perfectly with your expectations and budget. If desired, we can also meet at your home and/or at the future construction site.

Online services

If you live in an area not served by one of our 30 offices, or if you are unable or prefer not to attend an in-person meeting, we offer custom home design services online, from the comfort of your home. Simply provide us with all the details of the home, cottage, or multi-unit project you have in mind (see STEP 1) by email, or contact us by phone for more information. Some of our offices may also offer virtual meetings via video conference - please inquire for availability.

Contact us

Within 2 to 4 business days of our meeting with you, or other arrangement, a FREE written estimate detailing our service offer and initial delivery times will be provided to you for approval. The delivery time of a renovation plan can vary from a few days to a few weeks depending on the time of year, and could be readjusted along the way, depending on the time required for your reflection and the number of revisions required following the receipt of your preliminary plans.

Following the approval of our estimate (STEP 3) as well as acceptance of the delivery timelines of your final plan, sketches can be made for you to ensure that we have the same vision of your project as you do.

  • We will then proceed with the production of the preliminary plan which may include, among other things, floor plans and elevations of the 4 sides of the house, or any other information relevant to your project.
  • We will then follow up by emailing or handing over your preliminary plan to ensure that all details are in line with your expectations. If you wish and we have provided for by agreement, different design options can be presented to you.
  • At this stage we will make corrections as needed until the entire plan is perfect for you. One to three discussions or meetings are usually enough to allow you to approve the final project.
  • It is always possible to add various additional services to your plan such as the electrical plan.
  • At this stage it is also best to get quotes from one or more construction contractors.

Once the preliminary plan has been accepted, we will produce the detailed technical plan that will be used for construction. We print the number of copies (usually 5 or 8 as agreed to in our service offer) that you will need for construction, then your plan will be delivered to you personally. It is also possible to get your plan in large or small PDF format. Please inquire as to the fee for this service if not included in our original service offer.

You now have all the information you need to meet the contractor of your choice and get quotes for your renovation work.

The Drummond House Plans design team will also be available to answer your questions or those of your contractor before or during the work.
